My Opinion on the Grand Final.

Well, to start, it has to be noted that Norway did a great job in hosting the contest, and were worthy successors to the Moskva edition in 2009, and in some respects it was even better. Everything matched or bettered what the Russians did in my opinion, so all in all, it was a fantastic contest.
The songs? Well, I'm from the UK, and it was nice to see that some western countries had strong finishes, unlike our own entry of course. I might as well go through each song, mainly because I have nothing better to do right now.
Azerbaijan: Well, Safura did so well in her PR work before the contest, and I will admit I had it down as the winner by a landslide margin. The dancing was good, the singing was okay, however I felt the performance overall lacked something special that was needed to win.
Spain: I think I might be one of the few people to like this. It was clever, and the lyrics were also good. The dancing was well rehearsed, and I think Daniel Diges did very well when our little fan came onto the stage, hilarious as that moment was. Spain did well I thought.
Norway: I didn't like this. I have a friend who is mad about it, but I just don't see what was good about it. Granted, it isn't easy to sing, but it was never going to win on the night. I do feel though, Didrik Solli-Tangen deserved better than 20th place.
Moldova: This is good. On tape. I didn't feel that they did well, and I understand why it didn't finish strongly. It was flat, and for a Europop song, SunStroke Project and Olia Tira needed to add a little more character to the performance.
Cyprus: Brilliant! They did really well on stage, and I think it deserved a top 10 finish, but let's be honest, it didn't stand out on the night. It was a really nice and charming performance, but it lacked something to make it memorable to the voters.
Bosnia & Herzegovina: Balkan block voting, or at least what I expected. It was a decent entry in fact, and the fact that Pokusaj or whatever it was called, finished higher than this in 2008, is somewhat of a travesty. I liked this in truth.
Belgium: Tom Dice did so well. Everyone inside the Telenor Arena loved him, and I did too. I thought his performance was bordering on impeccable. It is nice and refreshing to see an "older" Eurovision country and a western country so warmly received.
Serbia: Again, this screams Balkan block voting, even though I thought it was a great effort, and was great fun to watch. A little bit childish yes, but the song was really quite likeable in a weird kind of way. Deserved 13th.
Belarus: I have one word for this. Ridiculous. It's ridiculous how a song like this could get through to the final, whilst Finland didn't. It was a really boring performance, and had me believing I was sat in some sort of eerie church. Seriously.
Ireland: Come on. Niamh Kavanagh deserved higher than 23rd. I can see why it maybe slipped through the net, but really, 23rd is harsh. I think she did really well, even though "In Your Eyes" was a better song and performance.
Greece: OPA! This did Greece proud, and it's impossible not to love this, let's be honest. Great fun, and he did so well to have everyone on their feet at the end. I wouldn't put it in the top five though.
United Kingdom: I'm ashamed to be British. Josh did so well too! It's a shame really, because a better song and this is top 10. The song was so bad, and it's not one I ever want to hear again. Like I said, it's a crying shame, because I'm a fan of Josh.
Georgia: Sofia has a fantastic voice, and she showed it. I can't imagine many people even dreaming to sing like that in a really choreographed song. She danced an awful lot, and her voice didn't change at all. "Shine" deserved much better, having been one of the best on the night.
Turkey: No. Not 2nd place, that's atrocious. I might get slated for this, but maNga did not do well. I can see why people are crazy for it, but it's an easy song to sing, and it was a bit of a let down for me. I've always felt Turkish entries are overrated, and this proves it.
Albania: Again, this one didn't stand out. It was a good Eurovision song, and in another year, it would have challenged the top 5. It was a good performance (with the costume choice somewhat debateable) but it just wasn't memorable enough.
Iceland: Can someone please tell me how this wasn't up there? She did fantastically! "Je Ne Sais Quoi" is a really good Europop song, and I don't see how she wasn't top 10. I can't justify this result, it's one of the surprise finishes for me.
Ukraine: I must admit, this grows on me the more I listen to it. It's a very good entry, in a weird way. I like it, but I do see why people don't like it. She does have a good voice however, but probably deserved to be no higher or lower.
France: Woooo!!! How I absolutely love this so much! Fantastic fun. If you weren't dancing to this, then there is something badly wrong. It was absolutely brilliant on the night, and had me up on my feet.
Romania: Decent entry. 3rd place? No. It was ok, I'm not disputing that it would do well, but it didn't deserve as high as 3rd, not in a million years. That being said, they did do well, and the song was fairly catchy.
Russia: I've a good mind to not write on this. I'm dumbfounded how it got to the final in the first place, not to mention how it flirted with the top 10 places. Stupid.
Armenia: I didn't mind this. Though she does need to have her haircut. In truth she did very well, but 7th place is maybe a little too high. She did well, and I like her, however I think the song lyrics were a bit ridiculous, and Armenia must get so bored of sending the same genre every year.
Germany: LENA! I love her so much. Her performance was absolutely brilliant, and she did deserve her win. She was unique in the way she danced, and it's really great so see a country like Germany winning, and also a song with no choreography or stupid costume design. It proves that if you send a good song, you will win Eurovision.
Portugal: Charming performance by a charming young girl. It wasn't memorable, but it was harsh that she finished so low down. The last four years each and everys single one of Portugal's songs have been inexplicably underrated, and this is no exception.
Israel: It's a good song. However, his voice really went in the song. I know it isn't easy to sing, but his voice did go badly in parts, and it's a shame because he did so well prior to those moments. You can't ignore parts like that, and that is what dragged it down.
Denmark: What an annoying song. The singers did well to keep in harmony, but the chorus really did get on my nerves. That said, it was a good show, and deserved its place if you think about it.
Well, you enjoyed that, and I hope you enjoy any future blogs I may make as well. Thank you for reading :)
