The problem with this site is that you can't send private messages, only comment on people's own space, like we do here now. But there is always email, of course... :)
There seems to be no official reason as to why Italy won't participate, but I heard a few that make sense. For instance that RAI is pretty unstable with bosses changing pretty often, leading to nobody daring to take a long-term decision like ESC participation. RAI also want the possibility to have more commercial breaks during the show. I don't know how much of this is true, but I do miss the Italian contributions.
