Interesting considerations that you have in your blogs. I share your concerns as for the voting system. I am not sure that it would help to know who the juries are, as it is difficult not the be biased. Ideally, it would be the best if noone knew where the songs came from before the end of the voting (presented under false names) but that is impossible to do of course. The tunes are announced months in advance, and that in itself should perhaps be changed.
Dividing it between east and west or incorporating some system that prevents block voting would make things better I guess, although I am not sure that it would be possible to create a completely fair system for all. I guess some countries wouldn't have as many songs to choose from as some others. Where to draw borders? It seems complicated.
Also, unrelated to this issue, it was interesting to see how remarkable differences there were in the votes between the first semi and the final. Greece won, followed by Azerbaijan, with Finland, Iceland and Lithuania on the following positions. The latter three were nowhere to be found in the finals.
Also, in the 2nd semi, my favourite song Love in rewind got a decent 7 from Denmark, but zero in the final, which makes me wonder... how the heck can I know that my vote actually counts? You never see those numbers anyway, no verification of any kind. Hmm...
Well, in the end, Azerbaijan got points from 30 countries, which is nice. I have read somwhere that they recieved a 12 from Malta, a 10 from Croatia and San Marino. This is the kind of votes that decide in the end. Similar with Norway or Germany, both of whom couldn't have won without some points from the majority of the countries - not only friendly countries. In the end, the Central European countries seem to be the loosers, along wtih a few nations to the south.
I really would like to see a proposal for a fair model from some wise man in the future.

interesting thoughts.First...i can't understand how they allow voting before songs are even performed. That doesn't make sense to me. your also touching on another topic..irregular patterns in voting...fixing votes is not outside the realms of possibility...how do we improve without changing Eurovision completely?...that is a near impossible question I think.
But In my opinion...introducing a scoring system...i,e..vocals,performance,visual etc and have a Jury in each country mark them out of 10 but allow us to see their marks...In this way it would be difficult to cover up block voting as the scores should be similar across the board...If a songs vocals are good...their good!..One country couldn't give 4 and the other 9 as that doesn't make sense. As of now...we don't see how the jury marks the songs...its all very secretive!
There needs to be more information available to the voting public on the votes...both televoting and jury voting...i.e percentages and scores. Its all too easy to cover up fixing and cheating in the votes at the moment.
I think you'll agree though the show was great..but in order to keep every country putting in that kind of effort...fairness has to be paramount in the voting...therefore changes have to be made!

that will be interesting alright. I don't really like the Swedish song that they are all talking about but the Bosnian song is definitely a dark horse....If I was to put my money on it i'd be saying the winner is going to be either Azerbaijan or Estonia. Finland will only appeal to a certain amount of people and Iceland has a great story behind the song...buts its not really good enough to win. If people catch on the this 'Jedmania' Ireland could do well. can't wait now!..i'll be having my usual eurovision party tomorrow night for sure!ege yüzbaşı says • 13/May 2011 at 19:32
You know, they are some favorites this year, and it makes eurovision more exciting.Because, last year we knew Lena will win,in 2009 we knew Alexander will win. This year we can't say that. But i have my own favorites too.In first semi, mine's are Azerbaijan,Russia,Switzerland,Finland,Iceland and they all gone through.Turkey was my favorite too but you know...We shocked.Anyway,in second semi,my favorites are Bosnia,Austria,Sweden,Moldova,Slovenia,Romania,Estonia and Ireland and they are all gone through too.But i really liked Belgium,Slovakia,Macedonia enties. But they didn't pass.Specially Belgium and Slovakia entries. What do you think about?Do you have a non-qualified favorite?

yeah...Norway had a great song we a great different sound and I thought they would do very well. I liked Belgium...they showed a lot of talent on stage. Slovakia was pretty good..I was surprised that Moldova got through...i thought they were rubbish to be honest.I think Turkey needs something fresh and different for next year...we have a totally new way of selection here in Ireland this year. There were 6 teams made up of well known famous Irish song writers...and they each had to write a song and find an act to perform it. We had a very high quality national final with all very different songs this year so I think its a good idea.
But i thought Norway would do very well!..its hard to know..it'll all come down to the performances tomorrow night I think. I would love to think Ireland could win but I just think a country with neighbors will do it.

yeah...to be honest I wasn't a fan of Jedward when they were picked to go...crazy is an understatement for them!!...I didn't know how Europe would see them...I think you either love them or hate them!I think I have changed my mind on them...they kind of grow on you...they are entertainers and I'm sure they will do Ireland proud.
The Turkey song was ok...I liked the dancer in the ball...it was a good show...the only problem was I don't think that style is as popular in Europe at the moment but it wasn't a bad song either.
I think Azerbaijan, Estonia or Georgia could do well...who do you think?
