A little story about me
Hello my fellow Eurovision fans!
I've been following Eurovision since 2007, but the first Eurovision song I've ever heard is "Fly on the wings of love" as a chart song played on Chinese radio.
I'm open to almost all types of music, but indie rock is my favourite. I love folk music in general, and there's nothing greater than gathering all European folk sounds on Eurovision.
I'm currently a journalism graduate school student in Shanghai. I live in Shanghai, also. My city is hosting the EXPO 2010, so a big welcome to all you guys!

Aha, considering the theme of the song (girl leaving boy...), the video is much too dramatic...but vey much in gaga style! She's a great performer. I like her ;)

Waht you think?
Reply from Gloria:
Feel is great! I like them!China doesn't have a mainstream rock n' roll culture, so people like pop songs much more. Jolin is of course very popular here. Jay Zhou (Zhou Jielun) is also very popular.

Oh I didn't realize that you meant "tenses". There are no grammatical indicators of tenses in Chinese. You can tell the present tense from the past tense by different uses of verbs in English, for example, but in Chinese you need to infer from the whole context or time indicators such as "tomorrow" or "in the past".By Łukasz Sulikowski
Reply from Gloria:
Well, one of my friends recommended me learning Spanish because it's a very important language. :)I love learning languages but that's not been my priority for some time. I'll take time out to learn Spanish I think.
By Łukasz Sulikowski
Reply from Gloria:
Japanese use some characters exactly like Traditional Chinese (as used in Hongkong and Taiwan) but pronounce differently enough. Basically Japanese and Chinese are very different, which means Chinese don't understand the Japanese language automatically, but it's true that Japanese is a easier language to Chinese than English. :)Koreans speak yet another very different language. I think Korean is harder than Japanese to learn, but it's a shame that I can speak neither. If I have time, I'll try to learn a bit.
Actually I'm starting to learn Spanish at the moment.

Reply from Gloria:
Oh no. Imagine a country the size of Europe, aha that's China, and then you can tell what a diversity China is. Chinese dialects are divided into eight categories, but there are numerous variations within each, so it surely can be hard for people living in neighbouring counties to understand each other's dialects.By Łukasz Sulikowski
Reply from Gloria:
Ok..In China, many people don't speak Mandarin 'naturally' because their families only speak dialects or often do so around children, so they are taught at school Mandarin. Even in Shanghai, I remember in my childhood my families and neighbours speak the Shanghai dialect far more often than when they speak Mandarin. But of course things have changed a lot for my generation, because we learn to speak Mandarin and we speak Mandarin almost all the time at school, which is required by the government aiming to popularize Mandarin. That's necessary enough because China is such a large country with people living in regions of endless variety that really need to reach out to each other. But guess what, today many people are talking about saving dialects! How time changes.I watched eurovision by internet that's true. I replied to you previously that I watched this year's shows by downloading them from a torrent site. ;)

Reply from Gloria:
Well, what do you mean by "mockery"?By Łukasz Sulikowski
Reply from Gloria:
I know the first song. It's very well-known and is a great song. I don't know the second one. :)About Chinese dialects, there are numerous of them and in many cases people from neighbouring counties or cities can't understand each other. Mandarin Chinese is popular enough in China, but in some very underdeveloped places, people speak their dialects only. You can look up "chinese dialects" or "spoken chinese" with wikipedia. :)

Reply from Gloria:
The first songtitle means "The Greek Girl by the Wishing Pond". The second one is actually in Minnan dialect, a dialect widely spoken in Taiwan and Mainland China's Fujian Province. It means "I even dare to visit the cemetery". The cemetery is obviously a horrifying place, and the girl is so much in love that she feels empowered and won't be afraid to visit the cemetery at midnight. I think that's the explanation. Hope it can help you!By Łukasz Sulikowski

Germany's victory was a bit of a surprise to me, too. But I'd agree that Lena gave one of the best performances that night and the song is not bad! Anyway, we can't challenge the result not. As a chinese saying goes, the wood has been made into a boat...By Łukasz Sulikowski

Hello my friend! I haven't been able to access this website since before the Final and that's why I didn't answer your comment sooner. I feel very sorry but things seem to be working again at the moment :))I'm very sorry that your country didn't pass the semi and I agree that it should have been in the Final. Better luck next year!
I didn't watch live this year, so I downloaded all the shows from a Russian torrent site "tfile.ru".
By Jamie Perez
are you going to be watching the 1st Semi Final tonight? I hope that my favourites Finland, Moldova, Serbia, Belgium, Estonia all go through.
Talk soon :) Jamie xx
Reply from Gloria:
Hi Jamie! I'm afraid I won't be able to watch the show tonight, but I'll definitely check it out tomorrow :))You know what, I like your favourites. I think the 1st semi is very strong, so I expect a tight fight. I like Estonia very much and I really hope that it can proceed to the final.

I also like "Dancing Diva" (Wu Niang). "Pirates" is also a nice song. Notably, its composer, Jay Chou is a very famous Taiwanese singer and songwriter. You should really check out some of his songs, almost all of which are amazing.By Łukasz Sulikowski
Reply from Gloria:
Some changes made to the beginning of the song, right? To tell the truth, I like the previous version better. But on the whole, a great song. By the way, Marcin added me as a friend days ago, so unexpected!By Łukasz Sulikowski
Reply from Gloria:
This is my favourite, but of course I haven't heard all her songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8o8rEoHK-usIt's called "Moonlight" (Yue Guang). The melody is from a Japanese song.

Reply from Gloria:
Well, for me it's hard to say who's better, Angela or Jolin, but both have a few very popular songs. Angela is well known for her song "The Invisible Wings" (yinxing de chibang), an inspiring song like Dima Bilan's "Believe".By the way, do you know Cyndi Wong (Wang Xinling)? She's also a young singer from Taiwan and has a lot of fans.

Reply from Gloria:
Oh I can see why :))It's interesting that Jolin has gone a long way from "Lucky Number" to "Butterfly", becoming sexier and sexier. In the early years, she was known as the "boy killer", but now she's turned into a seductive butterfly. I once saw an interview on TV where a few male college students were asked to compare Jolin with another popular singer, Angela Chang (Zhang Shaohan), and most said they prefer Angela because Jolin is too sexy for them.
By the way, Angela also has nice songs. I don't know if you have heard about her.
By Łukasz Sulikowski
Reply from Gloria:
Well, Jolin is a popular singer but she's not among my favourite. She has a few songs that I like, such as "Sky" (tiankong) and "The Dancing Girl" (wuniang) (I don't know if they are the official English translations). What about you?
By Łukasz Sulikowski
For me this is awesome! Great choreography. Safura is only 17 and she has future. She's very corageous to perform on the stage. But it was little bit stupid she almost drowded....
Reply from Gloria:
I think it's a very nice video. That "drip-drop" move will probably catch on :))Safura is a good singer and the song is great. I shared with my roommate all the entries for this year and she said that this song has the best melody.

And with Asiavision, I totally agree. No offence to Eastern European readers of my comment, they stuffed up Eurovision. The Yugoslavic countries, they are terrible at voting. :'( Netherlands is also a bit guilty of voting for Belgium... but still...... thats 1 country =D
By Matthew Meinema
Yeah, hopefully they get organised with Asiavision. I think it would be a bit rigged against Australia. All the Asian-land countries will vote for eachother, because they have the same music. All the Asian-Sea countries will do the same to eachother. We are stuck here on our own, without New Zealand. :'(
Reply from Gloria:
Israel's song is very much to my taste and after checking out the singer, Harel Skaat's last album, I simply fell in love with him :)) Estonia's song this year is something special to me.About the potential Asiavision voting scenario, I'll have to agree with you. Neighbour voting is just so unavoidable.
By Matthew Meinema
Anyway, yeah Finland is my favourite this year. It has inspired me to learn Finnish, like Estonia to Estonian last year. Quite interesting, since the languages are quite simmillar. Do you have a favourite this year?

I cant read and write in your language I only can in Russian and Greek. Do you know how to read polish?
Reply from Gloria:
I don't know the Polish alphabets, maybe I'll learn them one day :))Chinese is strange and hard because it has "pinyin" and then characters. You should learn "pinyin" alphabets first (a,o,e,i,u,b,p,m,f...they look like English but they read differently), and then every character has a "pinyin" and a tone to indicate its pronunciation. For example, the "pinyin" for the character "我", which means in English "I" or "me", is "wo" with the 3rd tone (there are 4 tones)...Chinese is in a totally different language system than most Western languages.
Other than my mother tongue, I only know English and German...

Reply from Gloria:
Hi there! China is a huge topic. I wonder what you know about China and what you want to know about it. Maybe we can talk over IM such as MSN. My MSN account is gloriamimi@sohu.com.It's hard to tell how it is to live in China because as you know China is nearly the size of Europe and in China, provinces and regions differ from each other a lot. If you come visit one day, I suggest you take a look at different places.
My homecity, Shanghai, is one of the most modern and metropolitan places in China, but it's only a fraction of China.
