Congratulations to Lena, and Germany for their unexpected win. It's nice to know that 28 years after winning, a country still has the chance. It's a shame on some countries, such as Portugal, who have never won, and have played 46 times. I thought they stood a good chance this year. Unfortunately not.

My favourites were Belarus' 'Butterflies', and Cyprus' 'Life Looks Better in Spring'. Neither of which did very well, coming 24th and 21st respectively. But of course they made it to the final - and that is something, still.

I've scrolled down the first 50 comments or so from the winning page, and have some points I'd like to mention. Lena won for Germany because her song was different. They tried a different approach, and people liked it. Last year, they tried Blues-Swing. People didn't like it. They came 20th. They are trying different things, and it's working. Turkey tried something different - they came second. I think it's saying something really. Maybe the catchiest pop number isn't always going to win. With Lena's song, you can sing along, hum along, dance along, sway along, and generally be happier for hearing it - that's what the contest is all about.

I'm from the United Kingdom, and we came last [unlucky, Josh], as we did in 2008 and 2003 - the latter being described as the ''most spectacular failure ever, in the contest" in the Eurovision: An Official History book, where we didn't manage a single point.. But it's not the winning that's the most important. It's having a good night. Each year, I sit down to watch a compilation of Europe's music, and I for one have a fantastic time. I don't like every song, but I try to pick out all it's good bits. We, in the UK, are obviously bothered by our recent inability to do well (with the exception of Jade Ewen, and 'It's my time' last year), but we don't let it get to us. We just look forward to the next year. When we send another artist to the stage, to see if they can do better. If they don't, we wait another year. It's all about the fun, and the smiles that are made. Not the winning, and the moaning, and the verbal fighting over who was better.

The best country is the one that won. It always will be. It's what we voted. It might not be the one you voted for, but it's down to the whole of Europe, not just you. Just accept that, and hope next year, your prediction was right.
