One month ago the 56th edition of the legendary Eurovision Song Contest took place.
In a few years we're gonna face the 60th anniversary of that outstanding event, which no one seems to take too serious but everyone gets caught of.
During it's long history the Grand Prix Eurovisión ran through many different times. Every now and then it had to suffer of non-interest. Fun has been made of it, it got put into a caste. Yes, it was even said to be one-minded, old-fashioned and unfair.
But exactly this passed time image is what EUROVISION lost within the new dekade! Slowly and secretly but still obvious it changed clothes and attitude once again and finally took off its last muff.
At least since the year of 2011 nobody dares calling it old-fashioned!
But the modern style was expensive! They took the great risk of losing the basic traditions which make the Eurovision Song Contest knowing an ESC-revolution is not stopable but necessary. So they went for it and at the end of the day the Grand Prix Eurovisión de la Chanson managed to connect the basics of this indispensable cultural and essential historical show.
To me the trigger for a change was pulled in 1998, when clowns and crazy figures came over the contest and shocked peoples. Every since that was done the ESC could keep on moving on its new way. At first causing confusion and losing even more style it grew. It was no longer the same competition but an inspiring event, appearing in new colors and forms every year, getting more expensive and large, but staying the same! After the lack of interest in the 90s something had to happen to reload the show, which actually ahd become to important for Europe. People had to recognize that again. And they did.
But before there was another brave thing they involved, which nearly was about to break the ESC. The revolution was also for opening the doors to the eastern Europe to join and take part. Concentrating it on the whole continent. That caused even more problems. When the eastern European countries sloshed over the contest and ruled it at first, discovering it for themselves, eastablished and loved the event in their countries. While the rest of Europe chucked it away as a freak show.
Now, that all these times seem to be over the early new Eurovision Song Contest begins.
Lots of love and different styles are presented every year, the interval acts influence music societies.
Many of the press men and my friends said, that ESC just came out as a music festival with the mood of an European sport champion ship with modern & varied songs, which are actually able to rock the charts!
That has been rewarded with viewing figures of more than 50% ! The 2011 ESC in Düsseldorf in fact was the most successful show ever produced on German television.
Eurovision finally hits Europe again!
