Hi all!
The big 4 have access to the final because they pay so much.
The "Big 4" have themselves decided to pay that much, in order to stay in control of the show and always have access to the final. If that money was all split on to all countries equally which was planned from the beginning, it could definitely be done, because 40% total cost divided on all countries is only about 3 % increase on all the other participating countries combined, which really is only peanuts in the end. But they decided not to do so.. Because they did not want risk being kicked out in the semi already.
I personally do not think it benefits the "Big four" countries at all to go straight to the final, quite the opposite.. The reason is that ALL the other nations won't vote for them is because they have already had time to favor all the other songs, plus there is a lot of anger that these countries just glide in without having to qualify on equal terms... Remember that a lot of these countries were all at one time socialist/communist including Sweden.. And that goes against their beliefs and moral principals. and I genuinely believe people prefer the music from nearby countries.. Because they are similar in culture.. Not just because they are neighbors.
This is why I believe the big 4 have insisted on having jury votes to 50% this year.. A desperate attempt so they can hopefully still stay in control of the ESC and increase their countries chance of winning. It only sends another really bad message to all the other countries.. That these 4 nations are "more special" than everyone else's. And honestly.. Why shouldn't all countries compete on equal terms? No. .I think it is time to look for a new solution. The West really needs to adapt to the wholeness of Europe and not cling to the past. That is the future..
Only the host should be able to get direct qualification for next year.. Since they host.
