The most recent news in the world of Eurovision comes from the Turkish broadcaster TRT. Yesterday they announced to Turkish media that they are fed up with the song contest and its voting system. Now they are ‘considering not to participate in 2013′.
İbrahim Şahin from TRT claimed that the winner is actually chosen months before May and others have no chances.
Of course, Eurovision Song Contest is simply a big conspiracy and broadcasters can buy their victory years beforehand. Well that was obviously sarcasm but apparently some really believe in it and a person who is working for a broadcasting company!
The question is, why is TRT frustrated? They won the contest in 2003 and has finished in Top 10 six times after that, including the seventh place in Baku. You can’t really say that block voting hasn’t helped also them to achieve somewhat better results. Or maybe TRT wants juries away, because of the juries they ‘only’ finished on seventh place this year although the televoters would’ve voted Turkey on fourth place.
TRT is now clearly trying to frighten EBU so that they would make changes to the voting system. I bet that Turkey will be competing in Malmö, once again.
We’ll see if this trick works.
