Yes, I agree with you about this year's entries so far. UK's is a "safe" song. It won't win, but it will probably finish in the top ten.

My Email is still the same, and I should be in this country for the rest of the year.
Sue and I will be going to Aus in 2011. Let's hope we're not over there when you're over here....Fingers crossed.

With my mum being in hospital still I'm not getting as much time to log onto to my PC. So when I do, I've usually got about an hour's work just to deal with all my Emails. Then it's off to bed, then up for work and so on and so forth. So forgive me if I am a bit slow in replying.

Hope the rest of your family are OK...Speak to you later

Hi Ian
Hope you and your family are well. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. There's been alot happening in my life of late. Haven't even had time to stay abreast of this year's Eurovision. I'm currently trying to plough through each country's selection shows - and falling asleep before the end of each show - so I don't know which song won. Anyway, I'll get there in the end.

How are you getting on with your visa/visit to UK. Hope things are going more smoothly now. When you know the dates you are coming, let me know and I'll sort out some time off work.

I'll leave you now and get ready to fall asleep in front of ESCTV the Irish Selection show.

Hei. I wouldn't say typical. But not atypical either =P I myself don't like the Finnish song much. I was voting for Heli Kajo.

That was a beautiful Neil Young cover, thank you so much for this lovely birthday present! I had a quiet birthday myself and enjoyed it a great deal. Lately I seem to be very much into nice and quiet things. It's pure extravaganza to me! :)

Anyway, here goes....HAPPY BIRTHDAY IAN........."Why was he born so beautiful, why was he.............."
You would have got that song at my Rugby Club if you'd been over here at the time.
Anyway, hope you had a good day and once again HAPPY NEW YEAR.
I'm just getting into my Tuxedo, ready for the festivities.

Birthday went OK on the film set. Actually had a conversation with Colin Firth. What a nice bloke !
It's snowing here, which I like. So all in all I've had a great birthday.
Re the Belgium song. I downloaded it about three weeks ago. It doesn't really do anything for me. Mind you, Leona Lewis's version did't either. Just not my cup of tea, I guess.
The cuts on my legs are healing very nicely, but the cut in my groin is still quite painful. The walking is progressing, but with the snow coming I have not been getting anywhere near the four miles a day I'm supposed to be doing.
People I know keep calling me in every time I pass the pub !!!!!
It's a cruel life !!!!!

I'm doing OK, mate. Got your Christmas Card, even though the address appeared to be a wild guess. Lucky the local Postmaster and his posties all know me. I've sent you a card from Silsden, showing a view of one of my local pubs in the snow. Not very impressive, but it's the thought that counts. DON'T THROW THE ENVELOPE AWAY UNTIL YOU've MADE A NOTE OF MY PROPER ADDRESS AND POSTCODE.
Are you any nearer knowing when you will return ???
I'm having some surgery this Friday, and I'm likely to be off work until after Christmas, so I'll be giving the Eurovision network some stick while I'm off.
Sue's doing OK, even though she is now fully redundant.
Oh ! nearly forgot, Sue and I have passed an audition to appear as a couple in a crowd for a forthcoming film.
Filming takes place on my birthday and will last a couple of days.
So unless we end up on the cutting room floor, you'll be acquainted with two minor film stars (Ho Ho Ho)
Hope you and your family have a good christmas. Sue sends her best wishes also.

I've spoken to the Postmaster, Andrew, today. He apologises for not being as co-operative as he could have been. His behaviour was, as I suspected, well intentioned and he has asked me to forward his apology for delaying you in your search for me.
Hope you got to Wedgewood safely, and that the rest of your travels are successful.
Reply from Ian:
Hi Michael - yeah - enjoyed the rest of the trip. Hahaha - you tell the postmaster he'll have to do better to throw me off the scent!

well, the rain is as necessary as the heat I guess. Oh, and I also love electric storms (had one yesterday!) they always remind me of the East17 song that goes
'when the thunder calls you,
from a mountain high,
it's time to spread your wings and fly.

when the thunder calls you,
under purple sun,
to the place where horses run'

do you know it?

Hi Ian!
To tell you the truth, I'm having a hard time choosing from the entries. There are so many good ones: Iceland, France, Sweden, Estonia, Israel, Norway, Malta, Bosnia&Herzegovina, Portugal, Armenia, Modova and even Ukraine (yes, Ukraine lol). I can't make up my mind, they are all my favorites. I guess it will all come down to the live performances tonight. I'm really looking forward to it. woohoo!!!!!!!!!!

Well, so you got it right then. I really never thought that Croatia could make it. It was obvious that at least one of the former Yugoslav countries would qualify, but I thought it was going to be Serbia (thank God it wasn't) or even Slovenia, but never Croatia!!!
I agree with you, I still think that Iceland is the most deserving country to win, and after that I too love Spain, and France!!! I hope it won't be Norway!!!

Hey there, I totally agree, the Estonian entry is incredibly beautiful, and I have no doubt it will cruise to the final.
Hadise, what can I say, I actually did like her outfit, but what probably was terrible was the camerawork, which failed to help her show it off a bit more.
As for the final, I strongly support Iceland, and right after, Spain and France. I think all three songs are just perfect, each one in its style!
What do you think?

Ian, you're so right about the Estonian entry. Hauntingly beautiful indeed :) Hey, I couldn't help peeking at the your reply to Michael (ok, I'm nosy) and it's too bad you didn't write about your favorites from the 1st semi-final as well :(
Reply from Ian:
Hi Fabiana - I got up at 4am this morning to watch the semifinal on the internet! It isn't shown here until Friday night and that's too long to wait! I did have some favorites in the first semi - they are - Iceland (lovely song ), Belgium, Turkey, Malta, Montenegro, Turkey, Switzerland, and Sweden. Well some of them got through - but not all. The Swiss song was a lot like Coldplay and maybe it was a little too 'grown up' for Eurovision. I was surprised Montenegro didn't get through. Belgium?? Well not many people seem to like it but I think it is a good fun song, something to move to and smile along with.
Yes I love the Estonian song. From the first time I heard it - I said it was my choice to win. I hope Iceland does well - that was my second choice. There are lots of other good songs I know - but those two appealed immediately to me. Pity I can't vote! The TV station will probably have a vote again this year. Last year the most popular song in the comp was the Dutch song, which never even made it to the final. I really liked Ukraine last year. I'm still playing last years CD's! hahaha
I'll see you around the place I suppose. See ya!

Hi Ian
Thanks for the friend request.
I've not long returned home from visiting my son in Oz. He lives in the Sunshine State between Brisbane and Surfers Paradise.
I enjoyed my month there and can't wait to go back and explore further afield.

I've just had a frustrating moment writing my blog of the second semi-final, only to watch it vanish into the ether when I pressed the publish button. Technology !!!
It's late now, so I'll get off to bed and re-publish my thoughts tomorrow.
Bye for now
Reply from Ian:
Hi Michael! Well I'm coming to the UK in September doing some family history! Hope it isn't too cold then!
My choices for the second semi are - Poland, Norway, Denmark Slovenia ( I sont think they use their singer quite enough - but I like it), Hngary, Greece, Ukraine, Estonia( best song in the comp I think!) Azerbaijan and maybe Ireland! We'' compare notes when you put your blog up - if it allows you that is. There are some fantastic songs again this year. I never understand why the comp seems to get mocked. It's all about having fun - and there is only going to be one winner. England will do better this year - I like the song, I like the singer, but I don't know that it is Eurovision. I also like Spain and Germany.
See you around the place I suppose.
