Eurovision 2012 - Grand Final: The Review
Posted 27/May 2012 at 01:38 by Tony KuKo. Topics: Albania, Azerbaijan, Baku, Euphoria, Eurovision 2012, Final, France, Loreen, Malta, Norway, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom
So another Eurovision year has concluded. There were no surprises at all as me and another million people predicted Sweden could win. It's nice for them thought, Eurovision is a big passion over there and Loreen gave one of the most amazing performances ever and we'll be looking forward an impressive show next year. On the other hand, I hope the EBU continues to use the same formula to announce the voting despite Sweden won by a landslide there were a few times we could see Serbia or Russia coming close to it.
Nostalgia
The fact that Zeljko and Jonsi were competing, the similiarity between the Turkish and Azeri music, the red colour, and the Maltese performance was so early 2000s made me remember the 2004 contest held in Istanbul which was actually the first Eurovision show I watched live and the second overall :'(
Some figures
- Sweden won the contest for the fifth time (now equalling the record from the United Kingdom and Luxembourg). They also won for the first time since 1999.
- Russia received its first Top 10 placing since their win in 2008.
- Serbia achieved its second best result since winning in 2007.
- Albania got their best result ever. Their highest placement was 7th in 2004.
- Spain achieved its best result and first Top 10 placing also since 2004.
- Norway placed last for the 11th time so it didn't lose the record for the country with the most last placing.
The best performances (apart from Sweden)
- To me, Spain gave the best performance of the night. I didn't like the song much but both her voice and stage precence was so powerfull that I thought it would trigger Sweden's chances of winning. They really deserved a place higher than 10th.
- Albania also gave an earthshattering performance. I'm very glad they took the 5th place (2nd at the semifinal) and score their best place ever.
- I also loved the Maltese performance. I know I thrashed the song with my reviews but those dance moves really make me change my mind. It was beautiful. They surely deserved a higher place.
- FYR Macedonia was simply stunning.
Dissapointing performances
- The U.K. failed to make any impact. He seemed to be nervous and couldn't reach the last note. However there were worse and he didn't deserve the second to last place.
- France was dull, but I wasn't expecting much actually. The only good thing were those shirtless gymnasts :P
The semifinal results
- The first semifinal was pretty much what I expected however the fact that San Marino got their best result annoys me big time.
- When I first read there was a tie for the 10th place at the second semifinal I expected everybody else but Bulgaria (or Georgia). Slovenia and Slovakia were totally underrated.
Well my friends. That's about it for this year now. I'll be looking forward to be in Sweden next year (if I finally get my passport) and experience the contest in live action, who knows?
Thank you to all my readers and see you next year.
