Some Spanish Candidates to ESC Moscow 2009
Posted 6/Feb 2009 at 03:57 By Sergio Mora
This is the month my little friends. February and March are the months chosen by RTVE (Spanish TeleVision & Radio) to choose our representative in Moscow. We will have three semi-finals and a last final (It is pretended to follow Melodifestivalen structure & organization. A little bit difficult, by the way). Candidates have come out from MySpace platform, where Candidates let their proposals to represent Spain this year.
Among these selected ones, we can find two certain renowned National Singers: Soraya Arnelas and Melody.
The first one came second in the Spanish TV show "Operación Triunfo" 2005 (Star Academy in British world). Soraya has released some LPs in English and she also has a name in Europe as a dance singer. She has sung many times with Internationally known Belgian singer Kate Ryan (They both have some songs together). Her proposal to Moscow is "La noche es para mí" (Night is for me) a pop-rock song with arabian sounds. You can listen to it in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3t_F4GGkkQ&feature=related
Second candidate is Melody, a child prodigy that started to sing at the age of eleven with a children adressed "rumba" called "El baile del gorila" (The Gorilla's dance) which reached a spread success in Spain and Latin America. She has released 5 LPs and with the years her music has matured from children music to a pop music with "flamenco" elements. Melody option to Moscow is a Spanish-based flamenco song called "Amante de la Luna" (Moon Lover). You can listen to it in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8VSKppomZo As a curiosity: In the musical clip, Melody appears and will appear in Moscow too if she is chosen, with Vivancos Bros., a flamenco dance group (Well, she will be accompanied only with five of them).
To finish this post, I'd like to talk about another candidate to Moscow from Spain. She is Mirela. A spanish singer not very known (she has not released any LP), but with a powerful and heartbreaking voice. She has tried in vain to represent Spain in ESC since 2006 without luck. Her songs were good but the public didn't vote for her. In 2007 she was about to be elected (She came second) but D'Nash were chosen with the song I love you mi vida (A very bad option in my opinion. We only reached 20/24). This year she tries another time with an R&B ballad very powerful called Nada es comparable a ti (No one compares to you). You can listen to it in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eeo8O53qg7I
In my opinion, Spain needs a change in the contest, and the proposal of Mirela seems to me a marvellous choice. She has a great voice, full of force and the song is fantastic. To me is Mirela who should go to Moscow, but we will have to wait.
