Every year you see Cyprus giving its 12 points to Greece and sometimes Greece gives its 12 points to Cyprus (when participating to the final). Many people disapprove this and end in hooting. But think that this phenomenon is usual in the Eurovision Song Contest. Turkey and Azerbaijan, Romania and Moldova, Serbia and Montenegro (as till 2007 were the same country) and Greeve and Cyprus. Of course, when a song is good, takes all 12 points from its neibhgours. For example: when Lena with ''Satellite'' won the Esc 2010, took very good points from all its neighbours: Denmark, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Sweden in Esc 2012 had taken 12 points from both Finland and Norway.
HOW DID THE RELETIONSHIP OCURE:
Cyprus was settled by Mycenean Greeks in two waves in the 2nd millennium BC. In 1974, following the intercommunal violence between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, an attempted coup d'état by Greek Cypriot nationalists and elements of the Greek military junta with the aim of achieving enosis (union of the island with Greece) took place.
The culture of Cyprus is divided between the two distinct cultures of Greek and Turkish Cypriots. Each community maintains its own culture, linked to the cultures of Greece and Turkey, and there is little cultural interchange between the two groups. The Greek culture first has been present on the island since antiquity.
You see, Cuprus and Greece were twin countries from the far ancient times. Same culture, same language, same characteristics of people, philoxeny, same music, similar dances. All schools have been twinned with schools at Cyprus.
To tell the truth, this happens more often in Crete as the reletionships with Cyprus are better than the rest of Greece.
Greece had helped Cyprus and Cyprus had helped Greece at very difficult times.
