Hi Fab,

I thought you might like to see my two beautiful little canary babies that hatched just 12 days ago. :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJ54V1fAdNw

I have 8 canaries - well, 10 now, with these two little unexpected arrivals! I won't sell them or anything - they will live forever with their parents and my other canaries in one big happy family. :)

They have Eurovision names! ;)

Have a great weekend,

Hey Fab,
Thanks for your nice comment about my blogs. :) I do wish there were more interesting blogs to read rather than the numerous top ten lists. ;)
I will try and write more, but fear at the moment I would go off on a rant about grown men prepared to tread all over you to get a presspack, and fangirls being generally stupid. ;)
Besides, I have loads of lovely photos to put up as well - photography is one of my passions. :)
Re your question below, here in the UK, female blackbirds are actually brown, and they don't have the yellow ring around the eye, nor the bright yellow beak. So if it's the same size and shape as a blackbird, only it's brown....odds on it's a female. :)

I will do better with my winning prediction this year, because GERMANY does not have to qualify for the Final.
It will be a close run affair with Azerbaijan and Belgium. Well that's my opinion anyway, but what do I know ???
I know what I like anyhow.

The Romanian song......what can I say... PIANISSIMO....should qualify... but won't win. Nice try, but no cigar !!!

Hmm... about Latvian national fruit that you have asked here quite a long time ago... I cannot think of such fruit as a national symbol... but my personal memories about fruit, ...or here it will be - berries... bring me back to a sunny afternoon some XX years ago, when I was about 10 years old...
...we (my family and some friends) were travelling by rubber boats, for two weeks, along our River Venta. Spending nights in tents, cooking on campfires, watching sunrises and sunsets..., nearby the villages somebody went to buy ice creams and we ate them standing in the water, only with head (and one hand) above the water... it was hot July.
And so, once on our way we came across a little island in the middle of the river... we stopped our boats there and had a walk around it... and there we found.... STRAWBERRIES!!!!!!! ... oh, Fab, although I know your attitude to them, I think you would still really enjoy this... nobody had been in this island to pick them... so there were millions... and we simply sat down where it was possible on some green place on the ground and leisurely and relishingly had our strawberry supper from the red berry-carpet around... just sitting, within an armstretch around us, it was possible to gather litres of berries ... we didn't talk... we meditated... listened to birds and bubbling water, and occasional sounds of civilization from both sides of the river... we had our ISLAND for this hour....

Time from time I've been listening on youtube to new Euro entries. Now I start reading blogs here, it's always interesting to know what other think about this or that entry.:) I have my favourites already...;) (oh, since my favourite music pieces very often use to be of ballad-type, so I start liking this "year of ballads" in Eurovision. lol)

Hi Fabiana, Just back from a 3 month sea duty which saw me end up in Portland Main, a lovely part of New England. My job has taken me to the walled city of Valletta the Capital of Malta but I will miss this years contest as I am going to be at Sea again. Like Paul I think the entry standard is very high this year. The UK of course has no chance with the limp wristed effort we have entered. I did have the honour of giving the Maltese entry a peck on the cheek when she did a meet and greet just 5 min walk from my front door hi. Sadly I do not think that song is going anyplace soon either. And Paul, I loved that Sax solo too!!!!

By Paul Addy

Hi Fabi,
Long time no speak!
For the very first time I've been listening to the songs before the actual nights of the contest. To be honest whilst I thought last year was probably the best yet in terms of how good the best ones were (and that there were so many good ones) I find this year is possibly the best overall because I haven't found a song that I just can't listen to again. I know stuff grows on you but even so there are some of last years that I just skip on the CD even now.
I can even listen to the Nethelands entry which I think is wonderfully hideous (or is that hidiously wonderful!!). First time I heard it I was transported back to the early 70s!!!(not an entirely pleasant sensation!) Lol Boy!... the Dutch really know how to have fun, for sure!!
My top two are Tom Dice for Belgium and Lena for Germany but Me and My Guitar is my favourite...it simply hits the parts the other beers just can't reach!! Loool. I also like the Estonian, Lithuanian, Cypriot and Belarussian entries in particular. The Moldovan entry is quite good especially the sax solo which I think is brill. Turkeys entry is pretty good, the video is quite cool and the Azerbaijan entry is the sort of girls song that could even be commercially successful over here if released at the right time (like a year later to lose the connection...you know what the Brits generally think of the contest...I mean look at this years entry...Oh well at least we're consistant!!) Loooool
Disappointed though that Romania didn't chose Lay Me Down by Zero for their entry.
I see that you move in high circles...just spotted that Jon Lilygreen is the latest on your friends list...does that mean that you're going for Cyprus to win. It's a good song and he does come from Wales so if they win Britland can claim victory by connection...it's clearly the only way we will win!! Looool
What are your Faves??
R u going anywhere interesting this year? I think I'll just stay at home, certainly for the early summer.
If this post appears twice (and is slightly (ever so) in its format) then I'm blaming the site...I wrote it once then clicked into your friends page to check the spelling of Lilygreen (knew you'd pick me up if I got it wrong!) and then clicked back and there it was ...gone!!
Take care anyway Fab :) x
Reply from fabiana:
Now that's what I call an information overload! OMG Paul, wouldn't it have been so much easier if you had taken ALL this information (well, except for the parts concerning my exquisitely (un)popular persona) and ... turned it into a blog or something!!?????
And as far as I'm concerned, there's NOTHING wonderful about the Dutch entry. Just hideous thankyouverymuch. And it's exactly because of people like you that the Netherlands is this year's possible dark horse. God help us all lol

Hi, thanks for email and birthday greetings.
Regards to twins, well I last saw my twin brothers in 1967 and I only met up with them in 1999, and that's when I learnt about the twins of one of those brothers.
I've heard all the euro entries now. I found it dissappointing this year as there are so many bad ones, and that includes the UK. I also didn't like Finland, Spain, Serbia, Greece, Russia, Netherlands, and Norway.
I did like Turkey, Switzerland, Cyprus, Slovakia, Bosnia, and Denmark. Estonia is ok but it needs some work on it as it lacks something after the build up, maybe it needs alot longer than 3 minutes.
ave you heard them all yet? what you like and hate?
Moldova, I'm not so keen, but it is better than 25 other entries.
I think that Sweden will win.
When's your birthday?
Best regards, Ace.

Mum got through the operation, but it will be some time before she recovers fully from the effects of the major surgery.

If I'm slow in replying, it is because I am not getting much time to log onto my PC. So that when I do, I usually have at least an hour's work dealing with my Emails. (Oh what it is to be popular......Not)

If you haven't heard the UK's entry yet, you are not missing much. It is what I would describe as a "safe" song. It won't win, but it will probably be in the top ten.

Mind you, it may do better, if all the songs are as ordinary as the few I have already heard. Nothing is standing out yet. How about you ? Have you picked a winner yet ????

Long time no speak.
It's great news about Nelly's exam passes and other wonderful experiences she's had (Aah, how I wish I was 17 again - trouble is my memory doesn't stretch that far back yet. Perhaps when I become senile I'll remember !!!!)

My Op went OK and I'm fully recovered.
My mother (88) has just gone through major surgery and appears to have come through it OK. Although her recovery time is expected to be lengthy.
Working and visiting hospital several miles away is taking up just about all my time. Hence my absence from this site.
I am trying to catch up with Eurovision by ploughing through the various country's selection shows. Unfortunately I keep falling asleep before the end of each show and don't know who the winners are. I was impressed by the Ukraine singer though. I don't know which song won, but the one's I heard him sing were well performed. He has a great voice.

I hope you are well, and that you start blogging again soon. They are great entertainment....and I mean that most sincerely (to quote Hughie Green). Who's he ???? She says. - Bye

A very late reply to what Latvians (should) cook for Christmas. As to beliefs, on the table there must be a pig's snout (i.e., head or part of the head of a pig - but the snout symbolizes ploughing the ground. Then also peas and beans - and you must eat ALL iof them that are on the table, so that you will not have to cry in he next year (so they symbolize tears). Gingerbread. Fish (so that there be much money). Round bisquits - so that there be much of the sun. Pies with bacon and onions. And yes, you must eat NINE times on Christmas Eve so that the next year is rich!:D
We made pies, gingerbread, pork chop and a salda from nine ingredients.:) And we ate ONE time...... it means, we started and did not stop eating all he evening...:DD

I am in the process of getting ready for our New Years Eve celebrations. So I will wish you a Happy Birthday in advance (and a hope of many many more).
I cannot decide what to wear either now.
The choice is Fancy Dress (no theme) or very dressed up (Tux).
I'll probably opt for the Tuxedo as my stand-by costumes (from previous Pantomime appearances) are getting a little too small for me now.
What would you choose ????

First of all, I can't remember whether or not I thanked you for the carol. It was lovely...Thankyou.
Secondly, wear what you like. I know better than to try and choose a ladies wardrobe. You will make the right decision in the end, and you will have the satisfaction of knowing that it was all your own work.
Thirdly, my snowman.........He was gay.
All his partners refused to be shaped like a female. Every lump added, just fell off (This isn't helping the story very much is it !!!)
Anyway, he wasn't lonely. He had three other mates...well acquaintances... Two other flat chested snow people called Holly and Mistletoe, and an ugly looking cat, who left his calling card all over the back of my snowman every time it came into my garden. I christened the cat "Shoo you *#?~*!"
The putrid yellow spray that Shoo you *#?~*! left on my snowman's back, had a tendency to melt lumps out of his back. It also left a not too pleasant smell.
This was one of the reasons why he was not looking too well when I wrapped the scarf round his neck, which resulted in his head falling off.
The annoying thing about this episode is that I had christened Holly and Mistletoe, but I hadn't yet given my Snowman a name.....I'll just have to call him Peter Peedon.
I can't think of a title for the story at this stage. But the category of the book will definitely be in the "Shoo Done it" bracket.

Hope you've recovered from the festivities. We've still got snow, but the snowman I made on Christmas Eve is looking a bit sad. I wrapped a scarf round his neck last night, but he looks even worse this morning.....His heads fallen off. Ah well ! Nothing lasts forever.
Time to concentrate on ESC again. I believe Armenia are due to choose their entry today sometime. So I'll look forward to that.
Don't drink too much on New Year's Eve.

I may even come up with a poem, I'm getting so excited.
Long time no speak. How are you ? Not too overworked I hope.
I'm going for some surgery on Friday, and I may be off work for 2 to 4 weeks depending on how it heals. So be prpared for some mega correspondence ( I might even teach myself how to send things from one website to another - I'm still in the 19th Century when it comes to technology - that reminds me, I'll must sharpen my quills and fill up my inkwells !!!) I can't even get the hang of cutting and pasting - except when I'm decorating, of course.
Anyway, I've rambled on too much, yet again. It's time for my bed - I'm on stupid 0430hrs starts at work this week until I go to the hospital on Friday. They've reserved a bed for me at 0730hrs. I'll be able to have a lie in before I go to bed !!!

The cat was called Jinxy. G'day Fabiana. I'm off over to England for the next 5 weeks, tracing some more of my family history. Will be an expensive trip - but hey - I'll have a really great time too. I'm going to try to find Michael while I'm there too - can't be too hard to find him can it??
Anyhow - thought I would leave you some music to look at and listen while I'm gone. The first one is from my favorite TV show and the guy is an absolute legend of Aussie music. Its an old Neil Young song
http://www.sbs.com.au/rockwiz/past/347/Paul-Kelly
The next one is also from the same show. An AC/DC song and I doubt they could do it better
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgbL2pLaQqI
and try this one - a new song by an Aussie girl and doing very well
http://www.youtube.com/user/katemillerheidke?blend=2&ob=1
Have a good time. Play nicely while I'm gone.
See ya!
Reply from fabiana:
Oooooh, now we're talkin!!!!!!That was good, GOOD stuff, Ian! Don't you dare keep such treats all to yourself from now on, you hear me??:)))))))) Loved Paul Kelly playing the Neil Young song, and Kate Miller Heidke simply blew me away, but it was the AC/DC song that REALLY made my day :D

Mate, I can't wait for you to come back from your trip (btw, have a great one!) and tell me what you find out about your family history and, well, bring some more awesome music like that!! :D :D

Ok Badiu nothing gets passed you does it? Looooooool. Now I was going to start writing excuses for my lack of originality (ouch ! that gauntlet you threw at me stings) but I’ve thought better of it ‘cos I won’t win, will I :))))))
Yes, I have been undercover. I’ve been posing as a ‘hip young thing’ which I can tell you wasn’t the easiest mission I’ve been on, as I’m sure you will appreciate, but keeping the victims in a state of almost permanent drunkenness apparently has helped a lot. So much so that they seem to have overlooked the fact that I’m almost twice their age and started to invite me to various ‘cultural’ events.
The downside is that I have to fake my way through conversations about various X Box games, almost constantly express a huge liking for drinking ‘flaming sambucas’ (which incidentally is not a wise thing for anyone with facial hair to attempt) and feign interest in several reality shows. So far so good, but I’m going to have to watch out for the late nights, they’re killing me, these people regularly stay up after 7pm!!! :)))))))))
Anyway, just got back from a music fest in a neighbouring county and I have to say it was really good. After spending an hour in a queue for what I thought was the bar I discovered that it was actually for the toilets. Doh!!! When I did find the queue for the bar I discovered that I now needed the toilet!! Double DOH!!!
Anyway , there were several queues for a large beer tent and each queue was so long that I estimated that it would take 5 years to get to the counter! Effectively you had to decide you wanted a drink before you’d actually decided you wanted a drink. Second problem was there were so many people smoking some odd herbal stuff that passive inhalation made me get to within 4 people of the bar and suddenly decide ‘who needs beer anyway!’ A passing friend managed to hurriedly push me back into place and luckily the effects wore off seconds later. With queues that long I thought that it would be sensible to buy enough to prevent further queuing. Funny thing though, I never thought that trying to drag a wooden pallet with 64 litres of beer on it 600 metres through ankle deep mud was going to be so difficult. Hmmmmm maybe the effects hadn’t worn off!! Lol.
A good time was had by all and at least my cover is not yet blown. Btw the best Bands were The Dykeenies, Ocean Colour Scene, The Zutons (they’re from Liverpool) and The Doves. Somewhere in their sets they did these songs (sometimes not quite to the same exacting standards but it was live music and it was good)

(You might know the song Valerie from the Amy Winehouse version but it was written by Dave McCabe of the Zutons).

looooooooool This is the Paul I know!! I can’t stop laughing, damnit!!!

look, you “hip young thing”, I’ve also been on a mission lately, or, better said, training for one. Everything started with a message I got from the headquarters, about the end of the world in 2012. Next thing I know I was in the mountains, doing some serious hiking. I guess that’s cos they want me to be fit when the time comes! :p As if it wasn’t enough, the other part of the training involved plenty of sun and water (and swimming, of course. DOH!), so now I’m not only fit, but properly tanned as well. Go figure. Oh, and the best thing is that I’m still undercover. Literally, as I seem to have caught a cold (relax! I caught it on purpose, it’s part of the plan! the sneezing and the running nose is but a mere disguise) and am on home confinement. Yeah, it’s awesome. I mean I have all sorts of fascinating indoor activities like drinking honey lemon tea, watching soppy movies and manga cartoons, getting drugged…but the best part is reading ludicrous stories and listening to cool music my friends send me (oh, I totally LOVE everything about the Pick You Up tune!!! “Nothing means everything”? That’s pure genius!! I wish I could have come up with that one…well, maybe next time…:p) So, agent Addy, now that you know my story, I bet you’re crippled with envy! looooooooooooool

Nell, French isn’t too difficult, look at me I started learning it at school 40 years ago and I can actually string several sentences together now. Ok, they’re the same sentences and have to be said whilst carrying a town map and a confused look but hey it’s progress. The French can be difficult sometimes and I think it’s the ‘old enemies’ thing. They can smell an Englishman at 600 yards (sorry that should be in metric so I’ll convert it ……600 metres) and seem to enjoy our bumbling Hugh Grant impersonations. At times if I’d had hair I would have been signing autographs!!:D You know one place liked it so much the same people did the Coca Light thing to me twice in the same day!! TIP OF THE DAY: if you ever go to Paris and take a trip on a double decked open topped Car Rouges bus then if sitting upstairs sit on the left side ‘cos if you sit on the right you’ll end up with a face full of tree branch at several points on the journey! By the end of mine the left side looked like the tourists they were but us guys on the right looked a Viet Cong ambush party, bits of tree sticking out everywhere!! :DD Anyway I’m sure that Fab won’t mind, she started it!! :p

Hi chaps, managed to ‘borrow’ my laptop back from my nephew so voici mon petit reportage de Paris. Saw lots of beautiful architecture, went to the Musée d’Orsay again which is in itself a fantastic building. Did a lot of walking round the back streets which, with it being August (holiday season in France), were really quite deserted. The trip from the Airport was quite simple RER train to Gare Du Nord then the Metro, which seemed daunting at first but after another few trips, later on, was amazingly easy. Some of the stations are like stepping back into the 1940s. Went to Montmartre and had a very nice lunch in the Café featured in one of my favourite films, Le fableaux destin d’Amélie Poulain (it’s where she worked), and sat and watched the world go by.
Hotel was ok but I found a better one 1 street away for next time. In fact it was the hotel I meant to go to but because they both had similar names I booked the wrong one. DOH!!! The room in my hotel was quite small and the bath was the smallest I’ve ever seen. The last time I had a bath in something that small I was two years old and it was called the kitchen sink!! Anyway, space is at a premium in Paris or so the family of three I found in my wardrobe told me. Had a walk along the Paris Plage, that’s the side of the river Seine which they turn into a beach every August. They had several ‘mist’ sprays set up and seeing as the weather was hot and sunny it was great to cool down by walking through them.
The following happened several times though:
Me: Un Coca light s’il vous plait
Them : Un Coca ?
Me : Un Coca Light
Them: Coca Normal?
Me : Non Coca Light (pointing to sign in the window advertising this drink).
Staff then have a brief discussion whilst giving me quizzical looks before producing a bottle of said Coca Light (it was written like that on the label).
I then asked, in French, what they called it in France to which they replied:
Coca Light.
I swear that what we were all saying sounded exactly the same to me but it must be my accent!!
Sense and sensibility.

Right, I've been given my orders from Nel, so I have to come up with a subject. I thought that seeing as this is a 'book club' I should choose something that is actually a book!!:)) So, good or bad, I've chosen 'Pride and Prejudice' a classic by Jane Austin, apparently translated into more languages than actually exist!! Anyway, you can discuss the book, the television series, the film or your own prides and prejudices…..like your pride in your home, family, town or country or other peoples’ (Fab, correct the grammar). The same with prejudices. I myself have one terrible prejudice in that I believe it doesn’t matter what colour, sex, sexuality, religion, political persuasion etc that you are, there are only two types of people ……… nice people and arseholes and both should get what they deserve. As a founder member of the extreme Centre Party I believe that we should all get on together or ‘we will put you against a wall and shoot you’!! Obviously there are some things about the Party manifesto that I haven’t properly thought through!!:D
Apparently the scene in the BBC series about Austen’s Pride and Prejudice when Mr Darcy dives into the lake in his riding breeches makes grown women ‘swoon’ ( I think that’s where they ‘twizzle’ round several times and then fall flat on the floor!!). I’m told that this clip is now being used at security checkpoints to counter female suicide bombers (sometimes it catches a few guys as well!).
So that’s it, I said it would be ‘mooky’ but you insisted!!lol
Reply from fabiana:
I really like Jane Austin. Smart girl for those times :) All I can say on the topic is that I have no prejudice whatsoever, and most of the times I don't have any pride either :))))))))))))) Life's too short for that kind of nonsense, don't you think???

How's my favourite Romanian ??
I'm still here, but sad. My weekly ritual of watching my favourite Rugby League team has turned into a wake.
They do not seem to be able to win a game, even when they are well in front.

So I am in mourning until the next win.

You could try crossing your fingers and toes, arms and legs for my team if you like !!!!

I have been keeping all mine crossed for Nelly.

I have a suggestion, to Fab and to Paul!! Let us crossfinger, or fingercross, about Nelly's exams, of course all of us about all three exams...BUT! Let us each cross fingers about one of Nel's exams especially strongly! My suggestion is, I'll be expert fingercrosser for the 21st, - Russian ('cause I know Russian). Then Paul could logically be the expert, the fingercrosser guru for 23rd, for English exam. And Fab could take Maths, in 26th, in her powerful hands. Then we'll see who'll get the award in fingercrossing! What do you think of this? Any objections? :)))

I know that she likes to communicate only in writing cos I saw her putting more 'notes' on other peoples cars when they weren't around either! That's how I know she's shy, well, that and the fact that she ran off when I chased her down the street!!! oh Fab, I wanted to reply to your post, but deleted it by chance! I:(
I guess I'll reply to you here:
It does make sense, just good old Ernest could formulate it better(Am I critisizing my favourite writer?LOL). Life breaks everyone, makes people stronger in the broken places, and those who won't break, who never give up are broken in the end too, but this time life doesn't make them stronger by breaking them, it ruins them it destroys them completely! And refering to the last part...who is a brave person? is it the one who's afraid of nothing? No! A brave person is the one who does the thing he considers right in spite of being afraid! Cowardness is something I can't blame people for...It's not their fault, that they aren't strong enough to do some certain things. Meanness and complete egoism that is what i consider the worst thing in the human beings...But who knows what is really right and what is really wrong? Everyone lives the way they choose!

So I'm here to say a proper "thank you" this time...Just wanted to say that among lots of presents I got today, there were three of them I liked most of all, and none of them cost a penny...One was a poem, my friend dedicated to me, the other was something some person told me when he congratulated me(too many "some"-s hah?) and the third is your present which made me smile after an avarage beginning of the day! And can there be a birthday without miracles? Life gave me another present quite unexpected one, which made my day...but you know it's really strange there were a few very unpleasant things that happened today besides the good ones..but anyway I think I'm pleased with my birthday!.

Ok so I need to brush up on my counting skills lol. Just sitting here in the garden chilling out over a beer and looking at my fat cat, well actually I haven't got a cat but it's sort of mine because it sits on the roof of my shed on warm days and looks at me indolently then after a few hours it gets up and looks at me as if to say "well your not much in terms of entertainment" and slowly walks off along the wall into an adjoining garden. I call 'it' Homer because a more intelligent cat might have come to that conclusion a lot earlier. I tried doing cartwheels once to spice things up between us but the six hours waiting in Accident and Emergency put me off doing it again!!:) Anyway I feel the need to open the envelope so are there any other Mraz tracks from Mr A-Z you particularly like? Oh and by the way.... it's Russian isn't it!! I knew it!!!:D

Just had a great idea (stay with me they don't happen too often:p) Now I'm making a massive assumption that if you like 'Love is Wonderful’ that you have 'Mr A-Z'. Now I’ve just received my three Jason Mraz CDs that I ordered a while ago and have spent the time since my return playing then, so, I've written my favourites from this CD onto a piece of paper that I’ve sealed in an envelope. Now all you have to do is tell me what your favs are then I open the envelope and compare! Just like magic! So what are your favourites from this CD? Or, someting completely different.

Well the real reason is - I hope to have a new central heating system boiler fitted at home, but because of the the extensive work involved, I have to clear my loft (junkyard) and the spare bedroom (storage room, well, junkyard also). All my life I have never been able to throw anything away if it has any use left. I've now got a week to clear 30/40years of junk, so the engineer can come and measure up properly for a quote.

Although I'm busy, busy, busy, you are all never far from my thoughts.

I'm also into a new book entitled "Do Bats Have Bollocks?", which is a second volume of utterly stupid questions by the authors of "Do Ants Have Arseholes?" - Jon Butler and Bruno Vincent.

I hope my intellect doesn't astound you too much.
Reply from fabiana:
Oh, were you confused by our weasel war dance? LOL If you ask me, you should've joined us!

Getting rid of junk is a good thing. This way one gets more space to play in and can feel warmer too (especially with a new heating system!)

The fence of my garden is high enough to keep out the undesired animals, but not the flying warrior turtle or the witty unicorn!

In my opinion the answer to the bat question would be: yes, they do, but don't know it cos they're blind. Am I even close?

Your intellect never fails to astound me!

I forgot to answer a question last night. You said "we still have to see about my trip to Oslo. And then "Should I go?" Yes, of course you should, then you can tell me all about it, it’s another place I’ve been thinking of going to for some time but as I didn’t know of any sad, tragic things to visit there I’ve always put it off!! :d Perhaps you’ll be able to convince me it would be worthwhile’:p

Hope you won't mind that I copy my info I've just written in Paul's commentary booth:)):
And I wanted to inform my friends that I'll be off until Wednesday. We have sort of small holidays in Latvia... in fact, not so small, since it makes five days this year, counting together with this weekend. Because on Thuesday, June 23, we have our Midsummer Night Festival (folk traditions since ancient times, beer and sausages, dancing around, jumping over the fire, singing folk songs and all that). In the present crisis situation of Latvia it is very necessary for people to feel our Latvianness alive... I'll write a blog about this when I return.:) June 23 and 24 are state holidays in Latvia (the latter date is a free day evidently in order that people can get some sleep after the dancing night... and yes, to sober up lol). And since this Monday (June 22) is in between the weekend and the holidays, then the previous Saturday was a working day for this Monday so that there are 5 days in succession.
Have a great time and please do funny things there so that I can after that read your traces and lol lol:)))

Fab, Thought I’d keep the Italian theme going so meatballs in home made tomato sauce (herbs garlic that stuff) on pasta. Yum!! The little girl Razieh? She’s like you because although she’s very slightly annoying :D she’s also utterly adorable. I think if you saw the film that you would agree that that is what she’s like.
Wikipedia says this about it and I couldn’t do any better: Razieh wants a fat goldfish for the Iranian New Year celebration instead of the skinny ones in her family's pond at home, because the fat fish looks like it's dancing when it swims. After many attempts, she and her brother convince their mother to give them her last bit of money. Between their home and the fish store, Razieh loses the money. She finds it, but it is temptingly just out of her reach. The money has fallen through the grate of the entrance to a store which has been closed for the New Year celebration. Razieh and her brother make several attempts to retrieve the money and receive assistance from many people, including the owners of nearby shops and an Iranian soldier. The money, however, is always just out of reach. Finally, the siblings receive help from a street vendor selling balloons. He carries all of his balloons on a wooden stick, and has only one balloon, a white one, left. The group attaches a piece of gum to one end of the balloon stick, and with it, they reach down through the grate and pull the money up……. And to say anymore would spoil the ending :p
Btw liked your advice to Nelly especially the very last bit. Oh, nearly forgot….is it German, the other language? …………..(making mental note that if it isn’t I should enrol in such classes straight away no matter what the cost).

2. Yeah, you're right I think I do think too much (see what I mean).
3. Now listen surely you can allow me this - it doesn't necessarily mean that because you have Romanian, Hungarian and Italian blood that one can assume you can speak all those languages? No okay it's official then - I'm a simpleton.
4. Given that you are already winning in the English speaking sector it would follow that you'll be perfect at French as well. But can you make French people fall over laughing when you speak it (mental note - she's probably done a comedy course in French -damn!!).
5. Yes it probably will kill me not to know !!!!
6. Why do you want to see my cat dead!! Is this the Italian thing coming out? My god you’re not in the …Meowfia are you?
7.Broooomstiiiiick, …….sorry just crossing that of my list of things I thought you would have.
8. Same reasons you won’t get one :p Goldfish are ok though ‘cos you can buy things with them over the internet and they fit just nicely in your wallet.
9. Speaking of Goldfish, have you ever seen a lovely Iranian film called ‘The White Balloon’ it’s about a little girl who wants a Goldfish (bit like you really!).

Do you know, you wrote something last night and I couldn’t work out where it had come from but I just went with it anyway. You wrote “Paul, you are a gift connoisseur! If I want to plan a vacation somewhere really depressive, I'll sure ask you for some tips”. So I’m still thinking about it this morning (in between thinking about other things) and whilst having a cuppa I started to read some of your old blogs and read ‘Lost in Translation, Please Help’ and there it was, you chirpily saying ‘I would much appreciate if you could help me out with the translation of their lyrics. English or French will do’. So that explained it. You speak French as well. Any other languages? Is there anything you can’t do?
Well anyhow, I then started to look at one or two more one of which was ‘Blue Monday’ and the comments about ‘La Voix’ had me going looooooooooooooool, no I wasn’t ‘laughing out loud’ for a very very long time, I was choking ‘cos I’d started to laugh and swallowed my Hob Nob the wrong way (it’s a type of biscuit in case you’re wondering). Anyway after the paramedics had left I read some more and do you know, I’ve had a really nice day!! At times I’ve been howling (there were strange men in my garden and I haven’t got a dog!).
Reply from fabiana:
1 You think too much. I never do that!
2 I speak 6 languages. Quick recap: You already know of my family tree, so you must have guessed I speak all those languages (I have 3 mother tongues, ergo I rock, woohoo!). You also know I speak English and French (better than you :p). It makes 5. Will it kill not to know what the 6th one is??? That'll be my little secret. Besides, curiosity killed the cat! :p
3 There's nothing I can't do. As a matter of fact I can even fly a broom (that is when I don't use the vacuum cleaner LOL)
4 Get a dog!

At the moment I'm reading "Do Polar Bears Get Lonely ? (and 101 other intriguing science questions).
One of the questions it poses is as follows:-

The mineral water in my local shop has a label telling me it is from a 3000 year old source, yet there is still a "Best Before End" date on it approximately two years in the furture.
If the water has been in its aquifer for 3000 years, why should it go off in a sealed bottle ?

Any thoughts ladies and gents ???
Reply from fabiana:
gee, that's really psychedelic, Mick! LOL speaking of polar bears, did you know that the first European to describe one was Constantine Phipps? The chap wrote this book back in the 1770s about his attempt to reach the North Pole. Obviously he failed :p (sticking my tongue out at you, Mick! lol)

oooh! You'll regret it. I'm really bad at choosing topics for anything...
You know the first thing that came to my mind is our psychedelic experiences...I'm so fond of psychedelia in music, literature, art, movies, well just in everything that I can't help choosing it as a subject for discussion... Hey but I'm still against drugs!:)))
"Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" comes to my mind and Pink Floyd music... And the impression that "The Wall" made on me, I'll never forget it...sitting in my armchair in silence under the impression for about quarter of an hour after the film had finished...Radiohead videos... all this music and movies and everything else are the things that impress me most of all and that I like most of all...
I also have psychedelic dreams from time to time... :)
Hope you share my love for psychedelia, though I don't think any of you has ever experienced hallucinations, have you? :)))
Reply from fabiana:
By now you already know I'm a dreamer with a (sometimes) nasty attitude, and pretty much a hippy at heart. I love everything about the hippy movement. well, except the drugs and the random sex :p I even send enchanted letters that sing Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds :)Since I've written about it so many times, now I'm not going to speak about the music, dreams, attitude, a.s.o. connected to it.

Since psychedelic means 'soul manifestation', I've decided to post some excerpts from a poem called 'Song of the Soul', written by Kahlil Gibran (I really love his works):

In the depths of my soul there is a wordless song,
A song that lives in the seed of my heart.
....
It is a song composed by contemplation,
And published by silence,
And shunned by clamour,
And folded by truth,
And repeated by dreams,
And understood by love,
And hidden by awakening,
And sung by the soul.

It is a song of love;
What Cain or Essau could sing it?

It is more fragrant than jasmine;
What voice could enslave it?

Who dares speak aloud the words
Intended for the heart to speak?
What human dares sing in voice
The song of God?

I'm starting to regret your recommendation of Jason Mraz. I can't stop listening to him now. I've found a vid where he looks like he should always be in Paris. Speaking of that what's your favourite artist, as in painter? Mine's Vincent. Musee D'Orsay Paris has some fantastic paintings by him, I can't pick one out over another because they are all so good, but to stand mille-seconds away from the last strokes of paint that he laid on a canvas (or whatever it was) is ………………… (I defy anyone to spell that sound !!)
I think that's what it is with Mraz, echoes of Don McLean and 'Vincent'. Anyway, I don’t know why it matters, but it does, I didn’t just ‘cut and paste’ the Romanian this morning. It took me 200 hours of finding the ‘squiggly’ things to put on top and bottom of all the letters (okay so I exaggerate sometimes) and I even listened to the pronunciation bits, and I must admit Romanian does sound beautiful, I mean that. I’ve always thought that there was a connection somewhere between Romanian and Portuguese; maybe we’ll explore that later.
If someone wanted to visit Romania and stay somewhere, where, they could get a few good walks in the country and a real taste of normal 24hr life where would you recommend?
Spoke to Anna today, nice of her to invite me in, I’ve enjoyed reading the interaction between you all ‘Aunty Fab’. Take care out there. G.night.

Well when you talk about storm music - I think of Riders of the Storm by the Doors
Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Into this house were born
Into this world were thrown
Like a dog without a bone
An actor out on loan
Riders on the storm

Can I be the guy behind your ESC work?? That means, you put the words, I'll throw the music and the staging, and we'll surely be a fantastic team. I have some wonderful ideas already for your words. At first I thought of making it a ballad lol, but then I thought twice and probably a really hot couple on stage, with backup dancers throwing rum to the audience... I mean does it get any better than that?

I'm sorry, but I just couldn't help it, and both when I wrote it and when I read your comment i laughed a lot (does is seem that all I do all day long is laugh??? well, it might be true).
I'm planning on another one about the jury vote, particularly since Finland had the decency of actually publishing the whole results, even how many votes got every country on the televote and how the jury voted, so it might be a fun thing to see how results might have been altered. What do you think?
On the Oslo-Bucharest thing, well, I woulnd't mind going to Romania, but I kind of planned my whole trip yesterday (obsession?), and I'd have to change everything!!!

BTW, I've started to look up for prices to go to Norway next may, and I think I will be able to afford it, so I'm starting to save immediately, and well, be a doll with my bosses so that they'll allow for a really long vacation (is this too much of an obsession?? in my house everyone's starting to judge me lol).
Well, I leave you for now, tons of work ahead, so until tomorrow, this is it from me!!

I'll post something not at all related to the contest, but that has had me awfully sad all day long. Mario Benetti's death. I just don't know how to start, I might again cry (and on a Monday afternoon in the office it would speak horribly of me if I blamed it on the alcohol).

Well, this time it really took way too long to answer... but I'm having a near-death experience with my hangover and I didn't seem able to put two ideas together.
First of all, I'll gladly give you Alexander to take home and pet forever. Just one question, though... how on earth will you beat to death the other million girls who actually want to take him too???!!!
As for my girl, what can I say, she really did make me proud (I admit to being close to crying, but then again it probably was the alcohol taking control of my emotions lol), just once more I think she came close to perfection.
As for the show, I'll try to post something later, or tomorrow, but well, I too think Turkey should have scored a lot less and Malena, Chiara and Soraya a lot more.
Cheers, I'll get back to you when I'm feeling better and sound-minded enough to comment your latest post!!

Yes, the same was here (hangover.lol). So I escaped today from the world and myself and went ... fishing. Well, not quite alone. And u know, spending half a day by the river, with the only music of bird voices and water bubbling, with the final catch that was hardly sufficient for kitten's supper... it was exactly what was needed to change rails. A new life starts from tomorrow. I am so glad to have met a person like you here, Fab.:))) A moment ago I read your last blog and swallowed a tear (...although I don't know how is possible for an object to travel from eyes to throat...).. I really do hope not to lose contacts.. well, at least the fact that next spring we'll probably anyway meet in this site warms my heart. I don't know whether they leave this site open for all the year. But just in case they don't... can I find you in facebook or anywhere? I'm not there but I can be. Hi Fabiana
I agree with most of what you said in your "believe in" blog, and feel honoured that I have come to make your aquaintance. Unfortunately there will be no rendezvous in Ireland or Estonia next year. If I win the lottery, then I will arrange for a private jet to take you, me and your Irish friends to Norway for a Euro-Scandinavian SC Party (tell your friends to bring the Guiness and I will bring the strawberries lol).
I have been working hard, whilst I've been away, but this time for charity. I have a camper van which I used as a refreshment point on a charity cycle ride. Afterwards, I raced across England to attend a Eurovision Party, which was great. I then finished off the weekend by watching my Rugby team lose to the bottom of the League club. So, it's been a bit of a roller coaster weekend. I'm now cheering myself up by writing to you. Hope you don't feel too used !!!
Anyway, it's back to work in six hours, but I do have a weeks holiday to look forward to starting next Friday. Hope you're not jealous. Bye

What leaves me a little bit more peaceful is that after yesterday's performance I certainly don't see him as a winner. The jury will certainly work against him!!

Sometimes it seems to me that music is dead in Armenia, I mean there are some really good bands but they are not for the public, so few people appreciate them, they just give concerts in some clubs for the people who do not want to hear the awful music on TV. So you'll hardly find anything in the Internet, I guess you can watch some videos by Bambir in youtube(that's the folk-rock band that failed to win the pre-selection, love them) and Dorians, their song Fly was in pre-selection too, it's not a masterpiece, but the vocalist is a new Freddy Mercury)))), hah I mean he's really great, and Reincarnation(it's a reggea band). Of course I agree with you in your excitement with Romania being in the final (I secretly, deep deep down inside, feel glad too, just because of you, although I'll never admit it publicly... fuck, I just did jaja).

But then, as I read your blog, I peeped in the youtube to crib some dancing-related titles so that to write such a comment here as to seem a very erudite person...lol.. but the first one that caught my eye was this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvW6nuQ2B0s
It appealed to me and made me serious, since I was taught to dance by my father when I was a little girl... he passed away more than ten years ago.
So I'll stop flashing with my musical knowledge at this.:)

Nice to meet a person in whose mind ideas are swarming in their multitude instead of cheeping solitarily.:)
Yes, this coming of ideas „out of the blue” and words „falling into place” in your case is probably a talent, i.e. a gift from the God. But you have more than that – personal attitude. Some awesome inherent goodness. Despite your tirade concerning „I’m not a polite person” :)
I totally agree with your last blog, Miss Inspiring.:) I’ve sometimes thought that the concept „friend” has been in a way depreciated in the internet space, in sites where you make personal profiles and „make friends” – often it is just a convenient and attractive word heading the lists of names that are added by one click. In reality the essence is actually deeply and highly something else.
I’d like to add that, like Latvians say, probably „you’re the kind of person with whom one can go together on a reconnaissance patrol”. (I don’t know whether it is close by meaning to Michael’s cited „Baby you can drive my car”, but anyway.:D)
Have a great Sunday!:)

Just now drone Anna is sitting here after a busy day, drinking peppermint tea with some strawberries (sorry for mention!!;) and at last glancing through what bees have produced during the last 24 hours. And yes, if space and time could be overcome with one step and one second, I would gladly go out with you and drink tea, coffe or anything and even abstain from strawberries (lol).
btw, couldn't it be so that in your person we encounter a professional writer here...? ;) I admire everything in your blogs starting from the captivating way of expounding on the subject, ideas, attitude, sense of humour, language... Respect (especially for one particular blog) and hugs.:) Good night!

Salut Fabiana !

Reply from fabiana:
Actually, I've been abroad to several concerts and events, but never the Eurovision :( Somehow my work always got in the way. The greatest irony was back in '06, when I was in Athens for work purposes (!!) exactly when the ESC was held. But, hey, it's too late to whine about it anyway :))
As for journalism, I'll leave that to the professionals. My blogging is for fun purposes only ;-)

As for the rehearsal videos, so far I've been able to resist and not watch them at all. I know that might lower my possibilities of adjusting my predictions, but this year I want to be surprised on the very night of the party (battle, and please don't accuse me of plagiarism).
The very last comment that you left for Shirley Shomron is widely shared by me, and it truly makes me even surer that I actually want to keep your frienship!

Well, I did say that the song is likeable, and what makes me hate it at times are the guys. Still, what really makes me want the Netherlands in the final this year, more than the song itself is the fear that they might withdraw in the future. I know this should (and I hope it will) be all about musical quality, but only for this time, I do hope that they'll somehow manage to sneak to the final. And well, for some the cheesiness might be funny, so I don't know, probably that'll do.
Reply from fabiana:
I agree with you from this point of view. I'd hate to see the Netherlands withdraw from the competition in the future. And any other country for that matter

Hey, well, I really don't know about Israel and Montenegro, as I said in my post, the Israeli entry will be one of those love-it-or-hate-it ones, but my hunch is that it'll just miss it, plus Montenegro has more friendly vote to rely on.
As for Romania and Macedonia, again, in the past Macedonia has seemed to be, together with Turkey, the one which most benefits from the neighbour vote, plus Romania has now lost the vote of Spain... I don't know, you might be right about this one, but I honestly hope you're not.
Thanks for your comments, and hope to keep in touch!

Hi again Fabiana,
I am now late for work, having peeked at your blogs and found they were like a good book. I couldn't put it down !!!
Your writing craft is second to none. Your sense of humour abounds. I found myself excited at the anticipation of reading the next line. You have captivated me with your writings and I can't wait for the next series.
I knew some good would come out of my association with Eurovision for so long.
My top 7 consists of 16 plus 3 not sures.
I am sorry to say that after one listening, Switzerland doesn't figure.
However, how many times have I first heard a song and not liked it ? Then it's grown on me after several more listenings...... Countless times !!!
My 16 in alphabetical order are:-
Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belgium (Yes Belgium - it entertains me), Estonia, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Lithuania, Malta, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, Turkey and Ukraine.
My not sures are:- Isreal, Latvia and Sweden.
I've probably given the kiss of death to them all qualifying now. (and OK there were 17 - Maths was never my strong point !!!)
I'm definitely going to work now. Hope to communicate with you later. You will no doubt have lots of constructive criticism about my choices and ommisions. There's nothing like a good argument !!! Is there ?
Love, Mick.

Thankyou for requesting my friendship..
I am just on my way to work at this moment in time. So I will have to speak to you later.
I have listened to all the songs only once so far. At the moment Ireland is my favourite followed by Moldova and Ukraine. But that may change as I listen to them over again.
Normally I would have listened to all the songs several times by now, but I have been away in Australia for a month visiting my son and his family. He had a limit on how much he could download, so I could not listen or watch the videos there.
