About me

Nothing too interesting... I've been watching Eurovision from umm... Maybe 2002. Since then I was developing my music taste and enjoyed watching the contest.

Hello all Eurovision lovers (or even haters...)!

First of all, I'd like to congratulate you with being so patient and very positive about Eurovision '10. The mixture of different kinds of songs - from heartbreaking ballads to crazy alternative songs, it is so exciting to hear a single song, which represents each country.

However, this blog is not all about praising different songs. It's more of a friendly criticism and predictions. So here we go - first semifinal of Eurovison '10.

Moldova
SunStroke Project & Olia Tira - Run away

Quite a catchy song. Although it isn't the strongest song vocally, it's strongest part is an easy and light main verse and saxophone part.

Russia
Peter Nalitch and Friends - Lost and Forgotten

A very risky move by Russians to select this song to participate in Eurovision '10. It is a very personal choice for everybody - either love it or hate it (personally for me is the second option). I'd predict a very hard failure here.

Estonia
Malcolm Lincoln - Siren

One of the most interesting and strongest songs this year, especially for alternative music lovers and those who are tired of those ballads. A lovely voice and a catchy song, although I'm not sure how would it look live. I'd predict an easy passing to the final.

Slovakia
Kristina Pelakova - Horehronie

Sorry Slovakia, it's so blurry that I can't even exactly recall this song. Somehow it feels like it was heard before. Just a plain simple pop song with some native motives... No finals this year...

Finland
Kuunkuiskaajat - Työlki ellää

Wow, something unusual to this rock at its hardest styles loving country. This song is full of native finlandian motives and a bit of balkan rhythm. Might get a ton of votes from Southern Europe and some from neighbors, so my prediction is an easy trespassing to the finals.

Latvia
Aisha - What for?

Remember Valters & Kazha? Now Latvia sends us another heart breaking song with such an emotional question "What for?". And that's probably only good thing that it has. Music was heard somewhere, vocal is pretty mediocre. The only thing that you can remember is that what for. I have no strong prediction for this song. Might be a close call between going through or not qualifying by just a little bit.

Serbia
Milan Stanković - Ovo je Balkan

One word - Balkan. Nothing else to say. One of the worst entries this year.

Bosnia & Herzegovina
Vukašin Brajić - Thunder And Lightning

Wow. Almost rock. And this is not a traditional song "a la Balkan". However, if there are no improvements in this song's live performance, it is bound not to go further.

Poland
Marcin Mroziński - Legenda

Song is somewhat catchy, at least the main verse. A little bit of native motives introduced... And a very strange ending. However, this song might be a wildcard this year. Waiting for surprises from balkans.

Belgium
Tom Dice - Me and my guitar

A la Jason Mraz. Might appeal to some Eurovision loving Western European countries. Definitely a wildcard.

Malta
Thea Garett - My Dream

What would you expect from Malta? A lone women in the middle of the stage, singing with a godly voice. Sounds like this year. This song is really going to the finals.

Albania
Juliana Pasha - It's All About You

Traditional Eurovision pop song. Old school Eurovision lovers might vote for it, but majority of the people might be tired of this style. Close between qualifying and failure.

Greece
Giorgos Alkaios & Friends - OPA!

Traditional Greek tunes mixed with some fun. However, I think if a stronger vocalist was chose instead of Giorgios, it would definitely be a better song. This is a quote strong entry for Greece and this song should be seen in finals.

Portugal
Filipa Azevedo - Há Dias Assim

I was expecting some temperament from Portugal, but... I've heard a ballad. Ballad, which gave me a feeling of "I've heard this before, wait...". And this is bad. We want something new. Nad the vocalist is pretty mediocre, she needs some more training - academical training. Don't think this song will qualify.

F.Y.R. Macedonia
Gjoko Taneski ft Billy Zver & Pejcin - Jas Ja Imam Silata

A song which which forces me to say "Dude, what the hell are you singing? Translation please?". Was that so hard to write this song in English? Mediocre song, which might appeal to balkan countries. If this song qualifies, Macedonians should send millions of thanks to their neighbors.

Belarus
3+2 - Butterflies

A nice piece for ballad lovers this year. However, I don't know how do they look live and what is that "it" factor of this song. I'd predict that this song should be seen in finals.

Iceland
Hera Björk - Je Ne Sais Quoi

Oh come on... Couldn't you find anything better after a wonderful choice last year?.. Seriously, a traditional Eurovision pop ballad? Wildard - it depends on old school Eurovision lovers and their voting this year. Luckily for this song, there are only two traditional pop ballads in this semi final.

So Top 10 in no particular order:

1. Malta
2. Finland
3. Bosnia
4. Belarus
5. Greece
6. Estonia
7. Latvia
8. Poland
9. Belgium
10. Moldova

Well, that's about all for the first semi final of Eurovision '10. Our opinions might differ, so don't be mad at me - it's my personal choice. I'm hoping for a nice discussion though.
