Read full biographyCyprus: if only she could sing

Cyprus has missed out of the last three finals. The reason? Mediocre entries, singers that couldn't perform live, over-staging, all of the above... you name it, Cyprus has made that mistake. Even more, the last time that we saw a Cypriot entry in the final was 'Ela ela' (by means of direct qualification thanks to the lovely 'Stronger Every Minute'), which was among the favorites and ended in a mediocre 16th place.
It seems that the little island hasn't quite finished understanding what ESC is all about, and has managed only to finish fifth as its highest position. So, this year again we hoped for a real good song... and we got it. The song is very good (not a winner I'd say), and has some lovely lyrics. However, its main flaw is Christina Metaxa; whoever told that girl that it was a good idea to be a singer must be laughing hard now. She can't hit a high note, not one for the love of God. How the public actually voted for that is impossible to understand, and given that I actually didn't follow the selection process, I can only think what the other entries sounded like.
Still, we have ahead of us enough time so that 'Firefly' can be polished and given the performance that a song as lovely as that deserves. Otherwise, it'll be extremely complicated that we'll see Cyprus back in the final (it's hard enough as it is). Nothing more to say, except that please, for my mental health, give this girl some singing lessons.
