One of the most successful countries of the latest years has been Russia. I even read somewhere that Russia and Ukraine had become the new UK and Ireland of Eurovision. I doubt that’s close to being true, but that’s not the point. The thing is that Russia has, in the 2000’s, had a really impressive record, including two runner up positions, a third place and, of course, the victory in 2008. Diaspora and friendly vote or not, the truth is that no one can deny that Russia (most of the times) sends really good and strong entries (to me Serebro is still the one to beat, I don’t think any Russian entry has been as good so far).
Last year they sent a “singer” which pretty much did everything but sing on stage… she screamed, she was so fake in her expressions… anyway, given such poor presentation from the Russians, I expected an amazing return to form this year, and well, I was wrong. It’s not that ‘Lost and Forgotten’ is a bad song. It’s just that pretty much it’s an entry to be lost among the others and forgotten in ten minutes. I mean, you could probably enjoy it during a rainy afternoon when you feel very depressed and need something to throw you on the verge of cutting your veins (I really like that kind of song, just not for Eurovision). Peter’s singing really suits the song, since the voice itself is quite nostalgic. But what the hell was that crap of pulling out a picture when he sings that he sees her picture… last time I checked, this was a song contest, not a miming one. Anyway, to sum up all this, I think it’s a good song, which really has nothing to do in Eurovision.
As for its fate in the contest, well, fairness would be that it remained in the semifinal and that we didn’t see Russia in the big night for a change. However, it’s no secret thatn Russia is the one country which benefits the most from televote, and if the juries give this one the slightest amount of points, it’ll be very difficult not to have them qualify. I don’t think it’d do great things in the final anyway, and that on Sunday May 30 Peter Nalitch will be lost and forgotten.
