An original contestant of Eurovision, Belgium has been present in almost every edition, missing out only in three occasions. Yet, their record is quite bad. They do have one victory, and two runner up positions, one of which came in the last decade, but still, in general terms the small country tends not to do that well. Their last three entries in particular show that they might have just completely lost it… or have they?
This year the Belgian entry is my favourite. ‘Me and My Guitar’ is a really beautiful song which pretty much reflects the fear, I think, of everyone who devotes their life to music. Tom Dice sings it to perfection. There is no voice which would suit better this song, and therefore every performance is filled with emotion. I could go on and on saying how much I like it, but it would really be worthless, as the one word I can use to describe what Belgium is presenting this year is simple: perfection. It’s about time we have them back in the final, since they have only been present in one, the very first one in 2004, and that was because they were directly qualified. Since then, results have been disastrous for Belgium, so this year I’ll be cheering for Belgium, Tom and his guitar!
